Body in one place, Mind in limitless space

During the Covid-19 pandemic we senior citizens are limited in our social movements. The reason, they say, is we can be easily infected and thus might become virus-transmitters.

While my body is being quarantined, my mind is not in the bind. In the limited surrounding of our flower garden and in the bamboo kiosk overlooking Davao City, easily and freely I can move around in this “quarantined” Casa Emeritus, my residence, located beside the St. Francis Xavier College Seminary in Baranggay Catalunan Grande.

In the limitless inner space of myself I can easily and freely try to move around inwardly to comply with my spiritual obligations. I can get in touch with my soul and spirit through my daily Mass in my private chapel and through the daily evening rosary with my Casa family of two consecrated Secular Daughters of Saint Anne and a husband-and-wife friends with two kids. As a member of the active-contemplative Secular Institute of Notre Dame de Vie I can spend long hours in silence adoringly contemplating the Lord’s mysterious presence in my heart, in the heart of each person in Casa, in the chapel tabernacle, and in the environment around and beyond. My curious mind is free to browse around intellectually through the books and project-records in my office and library thus continuing the never-ending learning process even at age 85.

So in spite of GCQ limiting my social movements I remain free from the danger of claustrophobia which is fear of enclosure and enjoy the beauty of the agora, open space, of Casa Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Davao.
