DSWD facility for women creates protective equipment for department frontliners(Davao City) – The Home for Girls and Women (HGW), a Department of Social Welfare and Development residential care facility which caters to children and women in especially difficult circumstances who need protective services and other services that promote healing and recovery, has initiated the production of some face masks and face shields for the department frontliners who are still on duty amid the threat on COVID-19.

Center head Sheryl Ann R. Dumalogdog says that the center residents and staff will continue to help prevent the spread of the virus despite being isolated in the residential facility.

Ms. Dumalogdog has called on the department staff for empty plastic bottles such as 1.5-liter and 6-liter bottles for water and soft drink that may be recycled into face shields. The production of the face shields will be charged for a minimal amount.

The shelter residents and staff have also produced more than two thousand face masks for P25.00 apiece.

Most department frontliners who have availed of the face masks are those assigned in the Crisis Intervention Section and Community-Based Services Section who still cater to clients needing various assistance. The center has also provided some face masks to guards and utility workers on duty for free.

“This is our humble way of helping our colleagues in the department who continue to work in service to the people despite the threat of COVID-19,” Ms. Dumalogdog said.

She also added that this activity has aided the residents to become productive and ultimately hasten their rehabilitation process. ###
