Ideae Regunt Mundum

(IT IS IDEAS THAT RULE THE WORLD)

The Latin dictum or proverb in the present title translates as the sub-title herewith expresses. This is actually what is happening; whether you like it or not, you do get influenced by the ideas circulating in our world, especially if they originated from the ancients or famous influential people whose ideas seem to be guiding the world. It is expedient therefore you learn the art of thinking so you do not get carried away by the different opinions going around the world. Any human being can or may be mistaken. Sometimes the mistakes may not be immediately noticed. But if. he gets a following from naive people who tend to follow any one appearing to have some prominence, then the wrong idea or ideas may unconsciously or indirectly spread to other places and peoples. It’s good to learn to think before absorbing just what anybody may be saying or telling. I mean, the art of thinking with a view to discovering or clarifying the truth. After all different types of ideas circulate in our world, true and false, good and bad. God gave us a discerning mind so we may learn to discern the true from the false, the good from the bad.
Since we are humans and possess a spiritual soul we ought to develop an analyzing mind, that is, learn to think. I heard the expression from past literature: “the thinking mind is always striking out something new.” I guess such expression would most likely mean people who learn to develop their thinking abilities are most likely to discover the many aspects or new angles of reality that are applicable to the different situations of our existence. Thinking is really an art. The great men of the past were mainly great thinkers. We should try to emulate such traits. It takes humility to learn. If you proudly think of yourself, how will you learn? It’s the humble people who take pains to listen and learn. The proud may think too highly of themselves and remain ignorant for not listening to knowledgeable teachers.
