Bangkal Parish remembers Yolanda victims

Last December 1, 2013, on the first day of the last month of this year, the ministries and GKKs of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal commemorated the survivors of typhoon Yolanda as they held its Christmas fellowship. Registration started at 2:00PM, and the party lasted at about 9:00PM. It was held at the Sta. Cruz GKK gym at the Central Park Phase 1, Bangkal.

Seven groups vied for the effortless choral competition which was topped by the LCCP followed by the PSAs and the CCRS. Five groups contended for the simple dance contest which was won by the GKK Treasurers followed by the KOTAS and the PSLs. Both the choral competition and dance contest were judged by invited guests DAYCA’s Jecy Opada, IIREF Faculty Lourdes Lucero, and HCDC Faculty Amiel Baculna.

The OLLP Christmas fellowship was set by the newly formed Sports and Sociocultural Team composed of Ma. Iris Melliza, Alice Acebedo, Alice Lancian, Maryll Monica Piastro and Ronmark Coprada. The PSL band coloured the celebration with music and songs, and ignited the parishioner into dances at the twilight of the celebration. The entire fellowship was blessed by OLLP Parish Priest Fr. Dexter Veloso.

It was a very meaningful fellowship as the entire celebration has been offered to and bewailed the fate of the thousands of people in Eastern Visayas, that despite the upshot of Yolanda, the Spirit of Christmas reigned in the hearts of the parishioners with love and prayers to the survivors. It was also an entertaining fellowship as all ministries and GKKsprepared so much for the purpose.

Though schedules were so tight on few days before the celebration, some designated parish leaders were still able to attend to the Davao ASAC Assessment Report on the “Oplan Tabang Bagyo” shared by Fr. Leonardo Dublan, as well as the Interfaith Reflection on Mindanao Week of Peace shared by Ms. Milet Mendoza, both held at the Saint Jude Parish last November 29 and 30, respectively.

Despite hectic schedules preparing for the OLLP Christmas fellowship and the Year of Faith culmination, the Formation Ministry was also able to give Fiesta Orientations to the GKKs of ICC Kadayawan, ICC Conception, ICC Taal, ICC SM and La Purisima. This was in line with the preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary which was successfully celebrated by these five GKKs last December 8, 2013.
