Elementary students shine in poster making contest
Seventy elementary students showcased their artistry in Davao City Water District’s 19th Citywide On-the-Spot Poster Making contest held November 27, 2013 at SM City Annex Building. The students’ artworks were inspired by the Water Consciousness Month celebration theme “Conserve Water. Secure the Future”.
All contestants were given two hours to finish their posters using watercolour as medium. The posters were then judged according to the relevance of the contestants’ concept to the theme, artistry and originality. After the preliminary judging, the top nine finalists were then chosen to orally interpret and/or defend their entries before the Board of Judges. Based on how the finalists interpreted and / or defended their concept, the top three winners were selected.
The best three masterpieces were created by Alianna Love D. Serrano of Holy Child School of Davao – Green Meadows Campus, Jun Rey Bigallera of Vedasto F. Corcuera Elementary School and Vincent James O. Amantiad of F. Bangoy Central Elementary School. The other six finalists were Micquille Alexi P. Go (Cesaeo Villa-Abrille Elementary School), Janna Alexandrea L. Ramirez (Precious International School of Davao), Addision M. Mangan (Generoso Elementary School), Jiann Karl V. Gaas (Tacunan Elementary School), Carl Patrick V. Delima (Anthony and Mark Cavanis Elementary School) and Miguel Niño A. Camacho (Davao Christian Learning Center for Beginners, Inc. Main Campus).
The top three finalists each received Php3,000.00 and plaques while the other six finalists got Php500.00 each. Given to all finalists were DCWD customized back packs and information, education and communication materials. All contestants were given certificates of participation while the coaches received certificates of commendation. The schools thru the school heads also received certificates of recognition.
Judging the entries were known local artists Welehito “Lito” N. Pepito, Vicente “Ting” P. Aviles and Lovella “Dadai” Joaquin. Pepito served as the chairperson of the board of judges.
Said contest is also among the many activities that DCWD lined for its back-to-back celebrations of the Water Consciousness Month in November and its 40th founding anniversary. (Jovana T. Duhaylungsod)
