Heart of the BECs: Bishop calls BEC leaders as hearts of their communities

In his talk during the BEC National Assembly, Bishop Guillermo V. Afable told participants that their work in the BEC has made them the hearts of the Basic Ecclesial Communities.

He said that in the recent years, BECs has become a new way of being church in the Philippines and the clergy, laity and the religious form part of this new evangelization.

“You are the heart of the BEC,” Bishop Afable who is also the Bishop of Digos said to the participants.

“Each one of you promised to yourself and to one another, that you are going to be the joy of the gospel these days,” he added.

The bishop quipped that in the BECs, all of them are pastoral agents saying, “You are all pastoral agents. Whether you are in the academe, parish or diocese, movements, BECs, all of us are pastoral agents—agents of renewal as PCP II tells us.”

Quoting the 2nd Plenary Council of the Philippines or PCP II, the bishop said basic ecclesial communities under various names must be vigorously promoted and that Christian vocations in both urban and rural areas.

He also said the laity, clergy and religious are agents of renewal, game-changes, catalysts of change.
