San Pedro Calungsod’s 4th Parochial Fiesta
The San Pedro Calungsod Quasi-Parish recently celebrated its 4th Parochial Fiesta with Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., CBCP President & Archbishop of Davao, presiding the Holy Mass last October 21.
The said Quasi-Parish is located at Baguio District, Davao City with 19 GKK members.
In his homily, Abp. Valles expressed his joy in celebrating the fiesta of the parish with San Pedro Calungsod, the second Filipino saint, as its patron.
“Our first Filipino Saint is San Lorenzo Ruiz, both of them are laypersons like you. San Pedro Calungsod is a young person. Hence, you, young people, can be a Saint like him,” Valles said.
“In the midst of his death, San Pedro Calungsod’s faith remained with the Lord,” he added.
Valles added that all of us, like San Pedro Calungsod, are special seeds.
“Even though we are planted within death, we are sure that death itself couldn’t defeat us because with Jesus, we are guaranteed that death no longer has its power,” Valles added.
In 2015, the parishioners in Baguio District agreed that the feast day will be on October 21, in time for San Pedro Calungsod’s canonization.
The very young parish was declared as the 38th Parish of the Archdiocese of Davao last December 6, 2015 by Davao Archbishop Romulo G. Valles.
He installed the first parish priest, Fr. Ricky Flores at the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Baguio Proper, Baguio District, Davao City.
