Guiding you in the 34th Kadayawan Festival
It’s that time of the year again!
Make way for the King of Festivals — the Kadayawan sa Dabaw. Now on its 34th year, the City Government and the organizing team promises a grander celebration more than ever.
The Kadayawan Festival is celebrated to give thanks to the Divine Providence for the bountiful blessings of Davao throughout the year.
Also, it gives honor to its icons — the mighty Philippine Eagle, the majestic Mt. Apo, the colorful Waling-waling, and the rich culture and heritage of the 11 Lumad and Muslim tribes of Davao.
So, what’s up for this Kadayawan?
It kicked off Subang Sinugdanan is one of the major highlights of this year’s Kadayawan Festival. The Misa Pasalamat, which the DXGN Spirit FM covered, also took event on the same date.
The Kadayawan Village at the Magsaysay Park opened to the public while a 3D light show at the City Hall building entertains the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. until the 25th of August.
People should also watch out for all the major festival events are happening on weekends throughout August.
The Hiyas sa Kadayawan and her court were crowned last August 11 at 3 p.m. at the RMC Petro Gazz Arena.
Crowned Hiyas sa Kadayawan was Nurainie Ampatuan of the Maguindanaon Tribe; Hiyas sa Panaghiusa was Coraima Hasim of the Sama Tribe; and Hiyas sa Kalambuan was Jessa Andian of the Bagobo Tagabawa Tribe. The Maguindanaon Tribe also bagged the Best in Cultural Presentation award.
According to the City Information Office, the new Museo Dabawenyo will also open on August 15; the Tribal Games on August 16; and the Sayaw Kadayawan also on August 16.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited Indak-indak sa Kadayawan, an annual competition during the festivity is slated on August 17.
A Kadayawan Farmer’s Market at Magsaysay Park is open to the public on August 21 to 25.
The song writing contest dubbed “Tunog sa Kadayawan” will be held on August at the Matina Town Square.
The Pamulak sa Kadayawan, the photography contest, drum-beating competition called “Pitik sa Kadayawan”, and the traditional dance and song competition “Tambayayong Kadayawan” happens on August 24.
