The Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal launched vocational courses for the parishioners. OLLP Parish Priest Father Dexter Veloso had linked with Dr. Gaspar Gayona, TESDA Regional Director for Southern Mindanao. TESDA committed to accommodate vocational courses to be given for free to the interested parishioners. With five-day sessions per course, each student will receive a Certificate of Completion from TESDA.

As a start, TESDA offered six courses: welding, plumbing, motorcycle repair, food processing, commercial cooking and cosmetology. During the orientation held in the parish pastoral building last November 10, 2013, about not less than thirty students per course had responded.

Course on commercial cooking will start on November 15; courses on welding and plumbing will start on November 16; and course on motorcycle repair will start onNovember 22. Schedule of other courses will be announced later. Duration of classes will be from 8:00AM until 5:00PM.

TESDA enrollment was under the supervision of the Parish Social Action Ministry (PSAM) led by Vicky Macaday. Father Veloso encouraged the parishioners, especially the out-of-school-youth, to take advantage of the TESDA’s commitment with the OLLP, may it be for livelihood purposes or for personal consumption. As per enrollment, about more than fifty students per course are expected to attend on the regular classes as many parishioners encored this OLLP-TESDA coordinated program.
