Blood donation for dengue and cancer patients

DAVAO CITY — A CIVIC group involved various volunteering Dabawenyos for its bloodletting event for the dengue and cancer patients as its demand is seemingly increasing.

Rotary Club of Waling-waling president, Teresita Yñiquez, said Dabawenyos and other sectors donated in their bloodletting activity dubbed as “One Rotary, One District” last August 12, 2019 at Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC) from 7AM to 12NN.

Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) – Pediatric Oncologist, Dr. Mae Dolendo explained that they are targeting a collection of 200 bags.

“Right now, we are targeting at least 200 bags to be collected, and it does not necessarily mean that yun na yung traffic namin. Siguro if we have 250 or 300 people coming, we could have about 200 bags,” she added.

Chair of the Action Group, Art Galendes also stated that the said activity is synchronized district wide. He also recalled last year’s collection reached up to 730 bags of blood.

Dolendo said that the activity is already considered a part of the Kadayawan since it is set on this month. She also said that Kadayawan is not only for showcasing bountiful harvests, but it is also a good time to showcase Dabawenyo’s spirit of volunteerism.

She also informed that when a volunteer donates blood, there is a free physical check-up included. Such as blood-pressure, hemoglobin and etc.

The organization aims to help those patients who are in need of blood especially cancer and dengue patients. Since also, this month, dengue cases have been increasing. The said activity is in partnership with the Davao Blood Center. (Arviejay Ranido | MassCom Intern)
