Davao City Council approves amusement tax exemption

Davao City Council approves tax exemption on Ryan Cayabyab charity concertThe 19th city council of Davao ratified the request of Anak Kaugmaon Foundation, Inc., President Michael T. Manalaysay for a 5% amusement tax exemption on the proceeds of the charity concert dubbed “Ryan, Ryan! The Maestro and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers” during the council’s 4th regular session.

The Anak Kaugmaon Foundation, Inc., is a 20-year-old SEC registered, non-stock, non-profit foundation created by Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC)-Pediatrics Department headed by Manalaysay, with a mission to help the critically-ill patients admitted in the pediatric center of the said hospital who ran out of financial assistance to support their costly medical treatment.

The mentioned 5% amusement tax is the rate acquired by the said benefit concert that is under the Article VIII of Section 64 technically known as Imposition of Tax for Amusement Places and Activities.

However, with the concert’s intention to donate all the proceeds to the foundation’s chosen beneficiaries, majority of the council favored the request of tax exemption presented during the session. (Jay Ann Diems | HCDC Masscom Intern)
