Caritas Davao enjoins the Youth to care for the poor
On its 47th Founding Anniversary, Caritas Davao Foundation, Inc. urges the young people to serve the poorest of the poor of Davao.
Caritas Davao started 43 years ago, in 1972, as the official welfare agency of the Archdiocese of Davao’s overall pastoral care. The late Archbishop Antonio Lloren Mabutas founded the Caritas Davao Foundation, Inc.
This year’s theme is in line with the celebration of the Year of the Youth: “Mahigugmaong Pag-alagad kauban ang Kabatan-onan.”
A thanksgiving mass on the occasion of its 47th Foundation Anniversary will be celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Capalla, D.D. on June 9, 2019, 8:00 am at San Pedro Cathedral.
Another Eucharistic Celebration will be held on June 13, 2019, 9:00 am at the TDM Retreat House, in commemoration of its founder’s natal day the late Archbishop Antonio Ll. Mabutas, D.D. and official launching date of Caritas Davao.
Sr. Rose Duhaylungsod, TDM, Archdiocesan Coordinator said, around 200 Caritas Volunteers from the different parishes in the Archdiocese of Davao will gather and spend a day of fun as a respite from their daily apostolate of helping the poor in each of their communities.
Among the services and programs being implemented by Caritas Davao Foundation, Inc., are: Medical Assistance, Visiting the Sick, Food assistance, Clothing Assistance, Calamity Assistance and other monthly medical mission in the different parishes in the Davao Archdiocese.
It envisions a society in the Archdiocese of Davao where the poor and less privileged people would have the basic optimal requirement needed to make them physically healthy and productive, morally upright and spiritually mature.
Each of the volunteers commit to witness the Church preferential options for the poor and serve them with compassion; to provide temporary alleviation of the suffering and needs of the victim of calamities; to assist the poor in their basic needs to promote their human dignity; to equip Caritas human resources with enriched spiritually and skills to make them effective workers; and, to coordinate the social welfare program in collaboration with parishes in the Diocese.
