YFC Icon: Faith in Action

Every young individual is a traveler. Every traveler is in search of a purpose and place in this world. A young soul who keeps on searching longs to live in a world that nurtures and empowers, a world that can offer security and sense of belonging.

The young generation of today lives amidst the difficulties and conflicts they are unprepared to face. As if they are standing on the battleground, fighting with all their might, holding on to the promise of surviving the war, they gain confidence along the way. Indeed, they recognize their potential and strength that lie in their hands.

In response to the Church’s call to evangelize and to empower the youth, the CFC Youth for Christ immerse themselves in the Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK) here in the Archdiocese of Davao. As a concrete Social Action, this serves as an opening activity for the 26th year of CFC YFC International Conference where thousands of youth from different countries all over the world gather from April 5-7, 2019.

The said immersion aims to introduce the youth to the culture and way of living in the GKKs.

As they were able to witness life in the GKKs, the youth were awakened. This brought change of their perspective regarding the people of Mindanao. The experience was so amazing for the delegates, so that they would carry them in their journey back home. “Despite the news I often see and hear on news about Mindanao, what people don’t know is that there are many families and people here who have so much love to offer,” says Christine Bautista from New Zealand.

Another activity among others is Interreligious Dialogue which most delegates from other countries found somewhat new and interesting. As youth, they found it very difficult to deal with leaders of different religions. Now, they start to understand the intention for dialogue. It gave them proper motivation especially in front of conflicting beliefs.

Through the collaboration of the GKKs, the youth discover their potential to participate in the universal call of the church for massive evangelization. Indeed, they have seen the other face of the mission, the living out of faith and the beginning of their journey.

Young as they are, the true power of change belongs to them, the power to make a difference and bring healing to the wounded world. Following Christ’s footsteps and guided by the Holy Spirit, this young generation will never fear the future, because today is the time they have been prepared for, handpicked, molded and equipped by the One and Only Creator.
