St. Francis Xavier

“I noticed among them persons of great intelligence. If only someone could educate them in the Christian way of life, I have no doubt that they would make excellent Christians. Many many people hereabouts are not becoming Christians for one reason only: there is nobody to make them Christians.”

These words of St. Francis Xavier as he went to mission, remind us of the great work of sharing in Christ’s saving actions. Here in Davao, we have the St. Francis Xavier College Seminary and the St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary in Catalunan Grande molding future shepherds of souls. Priests are supplied all over this island in order that the faith may grow. We remember the PME’s and SVD’s who built and developed these seminaries and the presently the diocesan clergy that alumni priests may be ordained in order to propagate and nourish the faith.

What have we done to sustain the formation of our clergy who, like St. Francis, deepen our faith in Christ? What concrete actions can we extend so that our future teachers of the faith may lead us closer to the Lord?
