Lord Patawad

Kinakausap lang Kita kapag ako’y nangangailangan
Ang aking iniisip ay puro pang-sarili lamang
kapag may mabigat na problema at seryoso
Doon ko lamang naaalala ang pangalan Mo
CHORUS
Lord, patawad
Pagkat ako’y makasalanan
Makasalanang nilalang

“Lord Patawad” is one of the popular songs that hits the airwaves today. Basilyo, the singer of this song is one among the Flip-Toppers of today’s generation, least expected to have this song that boosts the morale of the faithful. Most of the themes of the songs from this group surrounds on gambling, girls, guns, and goons. Yet, remarkably, this songs reminds everybody to ask for forgiveness from the Lord for the sins they committed against others. As some lyrics go:
Kinakausap lang kita kapag ako’y nangangailangan
Baka may kakilala Ka na pwede kong utangan
Kasi alam Mo na sa tong-its talo ako
Pwede bang bigyan ako kahit anim na numero?
The first stanza talks on gambling. Tong-its is a kind of card games. This is commonly played by standby, gangs, and the like. They gamble in order to earn. They prefer to earn fast. Sweating-free to gain cash, like what one can get from a usual 8-5 jobs.
Kinakausap lang kita kapag ako’y nangangailangan
Sana’y may artista na maka-date man lamang
Okay lang sa akin kahit na si Joyce Jimenez
Sana ako’y pumogi, pumuti at maging flawless
The second stanza talks about girls. Some become proud they win more girls. This is a selfish attitude. They make girls as objects. They forget that they need to give importance to the subject and not to the object. Like what Jesus deed during his public life.
Kinakausap lang Kita kapag nangangailangan
Noong ako’y binasted ng aking nililigawan
Problemado po ako at wala ‘kong pang-inom
ang hina ko Sa’yo, yun ang hinala ko noon
The third stanza talks about drinking for pleasure, they tend to drink as means of forgetting the reality. They want to forget that life is always coupled with pain. In fact, Jesus Himself whose main objective is to die on the Cross for our salvation underwent pain. It is part of growing in faith.
Kinakausap lang kita kapag ako’y nangangailangan
Ang aking iniisip ay puro pang-sarili lamang
kapag may mabigat na problema at seryoso
Doon ko lamang naaalala ang pangalan Mo
We, sometimes remember God in times of trouble. When we receive God’s gift, we tend to automatically forget the giver. The Good and Loving Father God always forgives our wrong doings provided we repent. He was asked by His apostles how many times do they need to forgive? Jesus told them, forgive them not only 7 times but seventy times seven times. This means forgiving is forever.
Even if we constantly commit sins against Him, forgiveness is still the reason why he came down on earth. This moves me to ask the primary reason why Jesus Himself was sent by the Heavenly Father. The main objective of Jesus is Salvation. He prepared himself and went out for his public life at the age of 30. He has 3 years public life and experienced passion, death and resurrection at the age of 33. This is a complete manifestation of Salvation which is the primary reason of Jesus, being the Incarnate WORD of God.
It was not easy to die on the cross sinless. In fact, HE wants to save us from our original sin. This original sin was committed by Adam and Eve at the Garden of Eden. Salvation was completed after HIS death on the cross. But this salvation is not exclusive for the faithful alone, but inclusive to all people. He includes even those who persecute HIM. Jesus stated, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” This salvation is universal.
Lord, patawad
Pagkat ako’y makasalanan
Makasalanang nilalang
Lord, patawad
Pagkat ako’y makasalanan
Makasalanang nilalang
The chorus acknowledges his sinfulness. This is a good act or confession. This is honesty. Honesty is close to cleanliness, as one of the saying goes, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” Therefore, those who are honest are close to God. It is difficult to be honest of our mistakes especially to others. This can be done in the state of confessing our sins to the priest. Priest themselves are commissioned by the Church through the bishops the authority of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
According, to Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, DD from his homily, bishops are in line with the apostles. Thus, it is in conformity with the profession of faith that we are an apostolic church. Beyond that fact that we believe in One God in three Divine Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is known as the Holy Triune God. The Holy Triune God is Holy. As a summary this conforms to the profession of faith that we believe in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
Ako’y nagsisimba kapag gusto ko lang
‘Pag may bagong damit na ipagyayabang
‘Pag may bagong biling mahal na pabango
Kapag bago ang shoes o kaya ang relo
Ako’y nagsisimba kapag gusto ko lang
Pag may jowa akong makakalampungan
Kapag may mga bebot na ang gaganda
Kapag merong baklitang nakakatawa
Ako’y nagsisimba kapag gusto ko lang
‘Pag andyan ang tropa’t nagkayayaan
hahanap ako ng mapagtitripan
Pagkatapos ng misa ay aabangan
This stanza talks of pride. Pride in itself is one of the seven Cardinal Sins. These are pride, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, covetousness, and sloth. It is an avenue to commit sins. Sins may either be venial or mortal sin. “Lord Patawad, pagkat ako’y makasalanan, makasalanang nilalang.”
The fallen angels do everything in order to disobey God. In fact, Lucifer rebelled against God. This fallen angels includes the occult practices, withcraft, and anything related to magics, fairies, or masonry as stated from the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines No. 230 that it is not allowed for the Catholics to join a masonic lodge, the Illuminati.
In hell there are places for occult, witchcrafts, magician, and the like. Mama Mary goes to purgatory every All Souls, and All Saints day to bring the faithful back to the bossom of her SON. These souls are those who are always prayed by us, the living. These prayers will strongly be heard during the celebration of the Holy Mass. In this connection I strongly include the poor souls in purgatory specially those who are forgotten by many.
Finally, the song bears a lot of meaning. I love to hear more of this kind of honest-to-goodness tunes which all of us can reflect on.
