Presentation of Mary

November 21 is the commemoration of the Presentation of Mary. As a small child, her parents, Joachim & Anne presented her to the Lord in the temple. We also commemorate the church dedicated to her presentation near the temple in Jerusalem.

St. Augustine says that Mary, being a part of the Church, is both holy and blessed. But the Church is greater than she for which she is a member of this body with Jesus Christ as head.

“Consider how you yourselves can be among those of whom the Lord said: Here are my mother and my brothers. Do you wonder how you can be the mother of Christ?… Now you in your turn must draw to the font of baptism as many as you possibly can. You became sons when you were born there yourselves, and now by bringing others to birth in the same way, you have it in your power to become the mothers of Christ.”
