SMP FunRun Season 2
About 800 running enthusiasts were up at 4:00 a.m. on September 21, 2013 and were gathered infront of the church of San Miguel Parish in Panacan Davao City. The kids, the young ones, and the once young alike were clad in green and yellow singlets all geared up to run their chosen category of either 3K or 5K. The activity was formally opened by the morning prayer and blessing given by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Jun Gimeno. Warm-up followed at around 4:30 a.m which was lead by the PREX animators of Panacan. 5K runners took off towards the turning point in SunCity at 5:00 a.m and 7 minutes later a whistle blow was heard to signal the start of the 3K run.
It was such an opportunity for family and friends to bond before sunrise, enjoying not just the cool breeze but also the company of fellow parishioners coming from different GKKs. The theme of the said fun run is “Dagan Alang Sa Sacristy Ni San Miguel Season 2”, a sequel to the fun run conducted last April 2013. Top 3 winners per category (men and women division) were given cash prizes plus freebies. The first 3 kids who reached the finish line were also given cash prizes and freebies, so much to their delight.
After the run, everybody had their share of the food prepared such as arrozcaldo, boiled eggs, banana, pandesal and coffee. Adding the fun were the freebies given away for everyone courtesy of the sponsors namely Early Bird Pharmacy, UNILAB and Sanofi-Pasteur. Our thanks also to other sponsors TADECO, Minute Burger- Panacan, Padre Pio Funeral Services, Dona Mercedes Homeowners Assn. and A. Pizarro Vill. Assn.
The activity was culminated with the Holy Eucharistic Celebration at 7:00am. Fr. Jhun Gimeno expressed his joy during the homily for the overwhelming support given by the parishioners. He announced that on September 29, 2013, in time of the parochial fiesta, the ground floor of the new sacristy will be blessed and will be ready for use. He even invited the mass attendees to visit the sacristy at the back of the sanctuary after the celebration for them to see the progress of the construction. The announcement came as a pleasant surprise to many because the completion of the project seemed to be much earlier than what was projected. Kudos to the construction committee, the parish coordinating council and the parishioners of San Miguel Panacan.
Season 3? Wait and see…..
