Animal rescue group clamors support for victims of acid attack

The Dog Rescue Volunteers Group of Davao, the primary volunteer group who supports the seven dog victims of the recent acid attack at Purok 4 Vicente Gloria, Brgy. Tibungco.

Sonia J. Geli, Senior Leader of the volunteer group, called upon veterinarians and other rescue organizations to donate medicines and financial assistance.

“We have been to the City Veterinarians Office, they sent us the medicines we requested only once. But our group shouldered the expenses for the hospitalization of the severely wounded dogs from the donation we were able to gather online,” said Geli.

According to Geli, they already got some support from the City Veterinarians Office with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines but these are not enough.

Of the seven dogs, a dog has already died on October 24, 2018.

Three dogs are currently still severely wounded since acid wounds take one month to heal.

The dog owners filed a case at the Animal Welfare Desk at Sta. Ana Police Office on October 30, 2018.

Geli also called among other concerned agencies including the Philippine Animal Welfare Security (PAWS) for a stronger implementation of Republic Act 8485 or Animal Welfare Act.

The second hearing involving Rico Barba, identified suspect, and the seven dog owners was set on Wednesday, October 31 at the Tibungco Barangay Hall. (Julianne A. Suarez)
