Mother Butler Regional Confab: “Share Christ, Live Christ”

The Mother Butler Mission Guilds held a Mindanao Regional Conference last September 21-22 at Digos City. Bannering the theme, “Share Christ, Live Christ,” the Eucharistic Celebration was officiated by Most Rev. Guillermo D. Afable, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Digos.

Aparade of banners by chapter presidents and vice-presidents marked the opening ceremony. Ms. Dulia Sunga welcomed participants who came from all over Mindanao. Speakers included Fr. Danny D. Montana, RCJ, Fr. Rico H. Dingal, DCD, and MBMG national president, Ms. Lilia Pineda. Bourses were awarded to the John Paul II Seminary represented by its rector Fr. Kim Cossid, DCD and St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao represented by its rector, Msgr. Abel Apigo,

The Mother Butler Mission Guildsis an organization of Catholic lay women whose main liturgical work is the sanctification of its members and their fellowmen through the service to the Lord in the care and cleanliness of the altar, preparation and provision of altar linens and vessels, altar clothes and vestments for the local and mission churches, according to the Filipino Catholic Resource website.
The Guild is named after its Foundress Mother Marie Joseph Butler, an Irish nun of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who also founded the Marymount College in America. Her outstanding love for Jesus in the Eucharist impelled a devotion towards the care and upkeep of the altar. Guild members are praying for the beatification of Mother Butler.

The Davao chapter of the Mother Butler Mission Guilds has been existing since 1984. Past presidents of the MBMG-Davao included Ms. YollyMarfori and Ms. Sonia Gempesaw, who also served once as the national president. Current president is Ms. Sylvia Garcia.
