Society of Mary family honors the Blessed Mother
An international community celebrates the feast in honor of the Blessed Mother through a celebration with a local feel.
The Society of Mary family composed of congregations of consecrated men and women here in Davao has celebrated the feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross and the Holy Name of Mary last September 14, at the Carmelite Chapel in Lanang, Davao City.
A mass officiated by the Kevin Conroy, SM, the novice master of the Society of Mary Fathers from New Zealand highlighted the celebration in honor of Mama Mary and the Holy Cross.
The Society of Mary Fathers, Society of Mary Sisters and their lay members gathered together and invited the different mission areas they have like the Balay Pasilungan and the volunteers of their prison ministry to celebrate the feast of the Blessed Mother.
After the Holy Mass, everybody participated in the parlor games and witnessed the different presentation courtesy of the seminarians, sisters and priests who prepared their respective numbers to the delight of the audience.
According to Wikipedia, the Society of Mary is a Roman Catholic religious institute, founded by (later) Father Jean-Claude Colin and a group of other seminarians in France in 1816. Jean-Claude Courveille (1787–1866) was the first Superior General of the congregation but it was brought to fruition by Colin.
