Initial steps towards priesthood: Seminarians installed as acolytes, lectors

Seminarians of St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao were installed as lectors and acolytes during a ceremony held recently.

“You have made your initial steps,” said Archbishop of Davao Romulo G. Valles during his homily in the installation and investiture rights at San Pedro Cathedral in Davao City, July 14.

He added that it is their way of knowing if God really calls them towards priesthood.

Fourteen seminarians in the Pre-Theology Year had their investiture wherein the vestments were blessed by the archbishop before they were worn.

The Theology 1 had 23 seminarians installed as lectors and received the Holy Bible as a symbol that they will be the readers of the Word of God.

The Theology 2 on the other hand had 37 seminarians from different dioceses in Mindanao installed as acolytes who will assist the priests and deacons during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

The archbishop told the seminarians that they should be in love of the sacraments.

“Ultimately, the work of the priest is to do the sacrifice,” he said adding that serving in the Eucharist also entails sacrifice on their part.

The archbishop also told the seminarians especially the acolytes that their lives should be worthy of their service in God’s altar in the Church.
