The Power of Prayer (2)
Here’s another story about the power of prayer and the miracle of giving birth. This is the experience of my friend who is now a nurse based in New York City. Prior to working in New York, this friend of mine worked for ten years in Southern Philippines Medical Center here in Davao City.
My friend shared that she has a problem with her menstrual cycle, her period is irregular ever since. It only occurs two times in a year. She did not pay attention to it until the time that she was already working. She consulted an OB Gynecologist and the findings of the doctor was that she has “endometriosis” (a condition in which a layer of tissue that normally covers the inside of the uterus grows outside of it. Most of this is on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and tissue around the uterus and ovaries; however, in rare cases, it may also occur in other parts of the body. The main symptoms are pelvic pain and infertility. – wikipedia.org). She was told by the doctor that with the said ailment, she has only one percent chance of getting pregnant. It was hard to accept but she continues to hope and pray.
So, when she was already working as a nurse in one of the hospitals in New York, she consulted another doctor. Still, the findings were the same, she has a slim chance of conceiving a child. Regardless of the findings, she got married to her understanding boyfriend who is also a Filipino. With their desire to have a child, my friend subjected herself to a research study in one of the universities in New York. Scientists studied her condition, experiments were done on her like having test tube baby. However, everything seems to fail. So, one day the researchers told her that they have done everything possible for her but with all the negative results, she really cannot conceive. Then, she went home with a heavy heart and cried out to God during the three-hour drive. Upon arriving at home, she told her husband about what happened and her frustrations. Her husband assured her that it’s okay, nothing’s going to change in their relationship even if she can’t conceive. Eventually, they were able to accept everything with God’s help. Through constant prayers, they are also hoping for a miracle to happen.
Then, after some years later, my friend was about to have her annual pap smear test. During the test, the doctor told her that the size of her uterus seems unusual. So, the doctor asked her for some urine samples. Afterwards, the doctor told her that she was pregnant. My friend can’t believe it. Thus, the doctor suggested that they do an ultrasound test. And then, through the monitor, it showed that there is life in her womb. My friend cried with tears of joy praising God for the miracle. After her appointment with the doctor, her tears of joy seems endless that is why her husband who was waiting at the parking lot of the hospital asked her what happened. My friend was speechless and what she did was to hand to her husband the result of the ultrasound test. Her husband did not comprehend at first what she gave to him so while still crying she explained everything to him. Then, both of them rejoice with teary eyes and praise God for the miracle. Eventually, she gave birth at age forty-four through normal method to a bouncing baby girl. Now, the miracle is a two-year-old girl with a happy disposition who brings joy to their family.
What a story of a miracle! God really works in a mysterious way. Indeed, there is power in prayer!
“Never underestimate the power of prayer! Constant prayer, with full conviction, without loss of hope, really does create miracles.” – Ritu Ghatourey
