First MPS nun from Tagakpan celebrates God’s call to Vocation
Sister Merlyn Canonio from GKK San Isidro Orchids in Tagakpan joyfully responded to God’s call through the celebration and acceptance of her perpetual profession as the new member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Mother of Perpetual Help last August 15.
The joyous event of perpetual profession started at 9:30 in the morning at Divino Amor Church-Redemptorist in Lipa City Batangas. The mass was presided by Rev. Fr. Ben Ma, CSsR.
After the ceremonies of her perpetual profession, Sr. Merlyn thanked the Lord for the gift of vocation and the formators of the MPS congregation. She is thankful to God for her supportive and understanding family. Also, she is grateful for the congregation for accepting her to be part of their religious family.
Moreover, Sister Merlyn really persevered to be in the religious life through the inspiration of Mary. She summarized her call to religious life into 3M’s, which stands for Mystery, Mission, and Mary.
First, she called it Mystery because she really cannot explain the eagerness and joy of being a sister even though there are a lot of challenges along the way. Second is Mission, because she really loves to serve the poor. Lastly, Mary, because she was inspired of the “Yes” of Mary in accepting the responsibility to be the Mother of Jesus at a young age. She was also inspired by a childhood experience in attending the “Maria sa Barangay,” which is a prayer for Mary prayed in every house of their neighbors.
San Francisco de Asis Parish-Tagakpan is very happy and honored for having Sr. Merlyn Canonio, MPS, as part of the religious life congregation. Her acceptance to this life of vocation does not only bring her closer to God, but also brought honor and glory to the GKK and the parish.
It can be remembered that last month, Rev. Fr. Ryan Mullon, OSJ was also ordained as an OSJ priest. Both Fr. Ryan and Sr. Merlyn come from the same GKK. (Abigail C. Cervas | SFDA SoCCom)
