Dabawenyo usa ka Kristo sa isigkatawo

Kinsa man tang mga Dabawenyo? Miingon ang atong Arsobispo Romulo G. Valles D.D. sa mga mitambong sa pag-abli sa Kadayawan sa Dabaw niadtong Agosto 14, 2017 Magsaysay Park.

Una, “we are a people who simply do not forget that there is God the source of all goodness, God-fearing people… a people who are very conscious to follow what God tells us to do… a people who have a deep sense of God.” Matud niya nga ang mga Dabawenyo bisan sa pagka “multicultural” niini, nagapadayon nga nagatubag sa tawag sa Ginoo ilabina ang atong city government. Gikan sa unang pagbasa sa Deuteronomy, “…as my people, pay attention to the foreigners,” siya miingon nga ang city government nagpadayon nga nagaatiman sa mga langyaw. Iyang gipasabot nga kadtong mga huyang kon kabos ang maong langyaw. The “weak, evacuees, those who have less resources in life, the poor, they are the foreigners… if you care for those people, you have the heart just like that of God.” Gani ana siya nga angay ang tubag sa Salmo dili, “Praise the Lord, Jerusalem” apan, “Praise the Lord, Dabawenyos!”

Praise the Lord Dabawenyos, kay matud pa sa atong Arsobispo, kita “resilient.” Ang “Resilient,” pulong nga naapil sa tema sa Kadayawan nga mao: “Stand tall. United. Resilient.” Miingon siya nga kitang mga Dabawenyo, “resilient, we will survive no matter what, we can stand united not only relying on our own resources recognizing as brothers and sisters, but also believing deeply that the Lord will not abandon us. There’s a hand guiding us no matter what, even if fear seems to triumph, even if division seems to triumph, even if hate seems to triumph. No we are resilient, we stand up, we are united acting together as God’s children and that’s the beauty of our celebration having a component of this prayer, raising our minds and hearts to the Lord.”

Gihagit niya ang mga Dabawenyo aron paghatag sa kinabuhi sa mga “foreigners.” Sama sa paghatag sa Santo nga si St. Maximilian Kolbe sa iyang kinabuhi sa usa ka Judeo, diin kining Judeo usa ka “foreigner.” Ang boluntaryong paghatag sa Santo sa iyang kinabuhi sa usa ka tawo, usa ka ehemplo nga angay’ng sundon sa mga Dabawenyo, kay kini gisugdan man sa atong Ginoong Hesus. “May we have the power of sacrifice and love that Jesus had for us. May we treasure that love and sense of sacrifice for each other.”

Sa katapusan, miingon siya: “May we be ready to give our lives for our city, for its people. May we become truly the very core Dabawenyos. Yes, Dabawenyos who are really sons and daughters of God, holding the best gift of Kadayawan in their hearts, and treasure it—the love and mercy and compassion and protection of the Lord.”
