Bishops-Ulama Conference for Bangon Marawi

There are several groups, here and abroad, already admirably helping in the relief needs of thousands of displaced Muslim families including some hundred Christians from Marawi City. The variety of help is coming from government and private sectors. They are to be commended.

Some leaders of these volunteer groups are now finding out the need for unity and sustainability not only in the area of immediate relief but later in the work of rehabilitating the houses and public facilities. And over and above all, the spirit and soul of the Maranao Muslim. Authentic healing of body and spirit is humanly difficult.

The group leaders came to us, to the meeting of the board of directors of the Bishops-Ulama Conference (BUC) last 14 June 2017. They asked us to convene the major Mindanao stateholders who are Muslims and Christians to attend a Consultation on how to unify and make sustainable all the relief and rehabilitation efforts of well-meaning groups, associations and institutions so that the Bangon Marawi project will be effectively and efficiently realized.

Our BUC board decided to hold this Consultation on 12 to 14 July 2017 at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. We will be assisted by those group leaders and by our affiliate youth group, the Mindanao Tripartite Youth Corps.
