Youth Camp in Calinan
“Malipayon nga Pagsaulog sa Tuig sa Parokya, Sinaksihan sa mga Kabatan-onan nga Nagkahiusa”, is this year’s theme of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – Calinan youth camp, on May 12-14. There were 378 youth from the different GKKs. Calinan seminarians, young professionals, visitors serve as their facilitators.
Initiated by the Parish Youth Apostolate headed by Noel A. Parado in BSP Camp Malagos, Baguio District, the coming together of the young aimed to bring them intimately to God, to celebrate life and to deepen their faith.
Before this event, series of summer youth camp cross vigils were organized for the 5 districts of the parish to orient them on the goal of the camp.
The activity started with a Holy Eucharist at TMSHJ Parish, presided by the PYA Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Raul Nieves, DCD. The youth went on a caravan to the BSP Camp Malagos. Upon reaching the venue, the participants were welcomed with a ceremony and followed by a field demonstration.
Mr. Dennis O. Asumbrado from the Davao Verbum Dei Media Foundation shared the change in youth’s perspectives in the afternoon. After dinner, participants gathered for the ceremonial bonfire, human rosary and praise and worship.
Fr. Arnel P. Tadeo, DCD emphasized on the second day in his homily, the 100th year of apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three children at Fatima, Portugal, while the speaker, Fr. Cristopher Alcayde, DCD stressed the different themes of the year in the liturgical calendar and the roles of the youth in the church.
The youth enjoyed the sports fest and board games in the afternoon. They showcased their talents by performing different dances and musical presentations.
Activities on the last day included zumba, animation, and orientation about “Masa Masid” given by the Calinan Barangay and PNP.
Laro ng Lahi like tumbang preso, patintero, luksong baka, luksong tinik, were played by groups in the afternoon.
The celebration of Holy Eucharist reminded all the celebration of Mothers’ Day. The activity was closed by a barrio fiesta with the GKK leaders and visitors of the participants. (Raquel C. Lamanilao)
