Digos diocese participates in MASA MASID
MASA MASID (Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Anomaliya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga) is a community-based initiative to engage volunteers in the fight against criminality, corruption and illegal drugs. Its purpose is to heighten community involvement by mobilizing the support of local stakeholders, volunteers, civic organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sectors in the fight against illegal drugs.
To address the long standing battle on corruption, criminality, and illegal drugs, the faith-based organizations will be engaged through the Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS).
In Digos city, MASA MASID was launched last November 15, 2016 through a Motorcade. Planning conference on the implementation of the program was done at the Sanguniang Panlalawigan Bldg. in Digos City on December 6, 2016. This was participated by faith-based organizations including representatives from the Catholic Church. Sr. Paz Samillano of the Diocesan Social Action Committee represented the Diocese of Digos.
There are three implementation strategies of the program which include 1. Advocacy and education campaign, 2. Information gathering and reporting, and 3.Community-based rehabilitation program. Presently, in the Diocese of Digos, Masa Masid is still in the early part of implementation which is advocacy and education campaigns. (Manilee Araune | Volunteer)
