Honesty and high-technology lead to the owner of a lost-and-found wallet

The footage of a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera plus honesty and professionalism resulted to the return of a wallet left unattended by a female senior citizen.

Cirila Balanza, a resident of Phase 1, Doña Luisa Village, Matina here, went to the recently-opened service center of the Davao Light and Power Company at the third floor of SM City Davao at Ecoland, Quimpo Boulevard in the afternoon of July 9 to apply for a senior citizen discount and pay her electric bill.
Balanza immediately left after her transaction without her knowing that she also left her wallet at the counter of teller Jackielou Tan.

Tan noticed the black leather wallet and kept it and turned it over later to her manager Mark Anthony Metilla who also gave to the company’s security guard.

The owner of the missing wallet with P2,220 in cash was not immediately known since there were no identification cards inside.

Determined to identify the wallet owner, a scanning of a CCTV footage was done the following day and found out that the owner was an elderly woman wearing lavander dress who paid her bill at around 2:30 p.m. on that day. Using the company’s mapping software, the account showed that it matched with her name Cirila Balanza.

The department managers of Safety & Security, Engr. Edelito Fernandez and Metering Service, Engr. Mervin Dalian, went to the house of Balanza in the morning of July 11 to personally hand over her missing wallet.

“Nagapasalamat kaayo ko kay nagtake gyud sila ug effort nga ma-locate ang owner sa usa ka wallet nga walay identification.”, Balanza said. I did not expect nga ana sila ka honest”, she added.

Balanza was never expecting that she could have her wallet back because she even forgot where did she put it.
“There are still some companies in Davao City like Davao Light that are very concerned about their customers. I praise Davao Light for being so honest.”

The money worth P2,220 came from Balanza’s pension needed to pay for her other utility bills. (@dcherald/PR)
