Beyond Knowing the Readings

All roads led to the Saint Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary Gym on March 4, 2017 for almost two thousand lectors, commentators, cantors and psalmists from the seven vicariates in the Archdiocese of Davao. It was the 10th Diocesan LCCP Convention organized by the Archdiocesan Liturgical Center (ALC) with the theme: Ang Magsasangyaw diha sa Liturhiya, Bililhong Gasa sa Parokya.

It was a day of fellowship, fun and formation.

In his talk, Mr. Amiel Baculna reiterated the significance and the synergy of the roles played by each lector, commentator, cantor and psalmist in the liturgical celebrations.

The other speaker was Mr. Felix Tabuclin who shared the trials and sacrifices he went through and the countless blessings he received while serving as lector for more than two decades now. “Once a lector, always a lector.”

Integrated into the enrichment sessions were song and dance presentations by selected parishes much to the delight of the assembly. There were also fun games that pitted vicariates against each other and raffle draws to spice-up the event.

Lunch gave delegates a chance to fellowship with fellow church servants enhanced by the presence of priests and seminarians.

In the wind-up of the whole day activity, lectors who have served for at least 10 years, and have been active in GKK affairs, were recognized as Outstanding LCCP Servants of the Decade and received a certificate for their dedication.

The convention ended with a concelebrated mass led by Most Reverend Archbishop Romulo G. Valles. The anecdote at the end of his homily left a lesson for all participants to ponder upon: It is not enough that lectors, commentators, cantors and psalmists know their readings by heart; they should also get to know the Shepherd!
