Mass, outreach program end Year of Mercy in Mati
A Holy Mass culminated the Jubilee Year of Mercy in the Diocese of Mati and the parish last November 20. Apostolic Administrator and Parish Priest of San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral in Mati City, Fr. Edito S. Baño, DCM, presided over the Eucharistic Celebration at 7:00 AM.
Fr. Edito focused on the importance of celebrating the feast of Christ the King and the closing of the Year of Mercy.
Demonstrated through the Church that is the instrument of God to receive His forgiveness, love, peace, and joy in spite of their weakness and limitations, the Parish Pastoral Council led an outreach activity after the mass. They visited different centers where the underprivileged and the least fortunate were housed by the government for protection and safety. They brought not only “goodies” but the Good News touching their lives and letting them feel that they are loved and cared for by God.
Sr. Linda Singo, CM, the campus minister of the San Nicolas made the arrangement with the following centers such as Prison Jail, Provincial Hospital, KDIC (Kasanag Drop-In Center), Pag-asa, RSDC Reception Study Diagnostic Center, and to the remotest Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) or locally known as Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban or GKKs.
The PPC, BEC members and leaders felt the real joy in bringing Christ’s mercy to one’s brothers and sisters. Regular visits to the said places are considered as planned since God’s mercy did not end in the Culmination day.
Be Bible lovers, youth told
The youth coming from the different schools of Mati namely: Don Enrique Lopez National High School; Badas National High School; Catholic Student Organization of Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSC ST); Mati School of Arts and Trades; Regional Science High School; Mati National Comprehensive High School; and Matiao National High School attended the 1st Bible Youth Camp held in Baso Elementary School, Mati City, recently.
Guided by the theme, “Finding Home in God’s Word – You will show me the path that leads to life”(Psalm 76:11), the inter-school bonding was an avenue for them to share life experiences reflecting on the Word of God, the Bible.
They performed different activities especially the “Exodus Walk” along seashore. It made them experience a spiritual journey with the Word. Information about the prophets was given so they were able to look back at the different prophets in their lives. Psalms were simply presented, which they wrote their psalms, as well choosing any from the themes on praise, thanksgiving, and supplication.
Facilitators include Sr. Belen Suemith, LGC, the Diocesan Coordinator of BA/Lector Apostolate with members of the Core group: Sr. Linda Singo, CM, Campus Ministry Coordinator of San Nicholas de Tolentino Cathedral Parish; Mrs. Tita Ortega and Mrs. Linda Mahumot.
Fr. Bernard Albao, DCM in his homily during the Culminating Mass said challenged all to become models of being Bible lovers to their schoolmates because each has been called not for the self but for others, too. (Erlinda Mahumot)
