All praises for John Paul II’s sainthood

The imminent canonization of Blessed John Paul II is a sudden yet expected event in the life of the Church. The beloved pope will be elevated to the ranks of saints in an announced date. Pope Francis has approved the canonization of the beloved pope along with Blessed John XXIII.

For his part, the president of John Paul II College of Davao, a school named in honor of the pope with permission from the Vatican during the term of the soon-to-be saint said, “The imminent canonization of Blessed John Paul II perhaps late this year brings lots of joy to the whole world. He is most loved in the four corners of the globe which he practically visited and which had heard his message of hope and joy. The joyful manifestation of this great event also echo in the four corners of John Paul II College of Davao for every member of the JPIICD family can identify himself or herself with the thoughts, the affection and wisdom of this Great Pope.”

“Our school, John Paul II College of Davao enjoys the unique privilege to use his name which the Pope himself has granted permission while he was still alive. we consider this both as a gift and a responsibility. The canonization makes our college more resolved to promote the moral values and teachings that this Great Pope had taught and continue to impart on us with his sainthood,” said Ernesto Evangelista.

“If our college’s vision has been inspired by his person, it is doubly now that the Catholic Church has reaffirmed his sainthood universally making him the true patron saint of the youth. It humbles us to be the carrier of such a mission of promoting in our school what Blessed John Paul II lived for but we are confident that his patronage will keep us in the fulfillment of such a task,” Evangelista added.

The first miracle of John Paul II was attributed by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints to the beloved saint when a French nun with a Parkinson’s disease was healed. The second miracle was attributed on July 2, 2013 when a Costa Rican woman was also cured and approved by Pope Francis/

The second longest-serving pope, Blessed John Paul II was elected in 1978 as the first non-Italian pope in almost five centuries. He was born on May 18, 1920 and died April 2, 2005 at the age of 84 and was succeeded by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

During his term as pope, Benedict XVI declared his successor as venerable and then beatified him on May 1, 2011. (John Frances C. Fuentes/@dcherald)
