Mati Diocese to store BEC files
The Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) or Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK) parish coordinators of the Diocese of Mati see the need for record keeping and profiling of GKKs, apostolates, movements, and organizations’ activities
According to Pastoral Team Secretary Sis. Bing Gorospe, this plan transpired as the coordinators tried to recall the historical background of the BEC / GKK during their meeting at the Sto Niño Parish Hall, Kinablangan, Davao Oriental, last month. Present also were Fr. Roberto Ombon, DCM, parish priest and diocesan BEC director and Fr. Darwey Clark, DCM, pastoral director.
Representatives from San Nicolas de Tolentino, San Vicente Ferrer, San Salvador del Mundo, and St. James the Apostle vicariates discussed the needs of the BECs and mentioned that each GKK should keep a record or profile of their organizational activities, with the involvement of the apostolates and other movements to be stored at the pastoral office. This will help in monitoring the progress of activities through the years.
The vicariates were challenged to research about the history and development of their BEC, particularly focusing on how the Word of God was celebrated especially in the family as the basic church, the center of Teaching, Worshipping, and Serving.
The coordinators claimed that the number of GKKs is increasing, however the bigger task is on stewardship, that is, finding ways to maintain and to sustain the triple mission as baptized members of the Church.
The importance of the family was highlighted as we celebrate the Year of the Eucharist and Family.
