St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary Grand Alumni Homecoming 2024: Remembering, Celebrating, Hoping
The St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary (SFX-ReMaSe) recently hosted its much-anticipated Grand Alumni Homecoming, a four-day event filled with faith, fellowship, and nostalgia. From November 11 to 14, 2024, alumni from different corners of the Mindanao returned to their alma mater to reconnect, celebrate, and reflect on their shared experiences. This special occasion also honored significant milestones in the seminary’s 60th anniversary, including the ordination of new deacons and the unveiling of a statue in memory of beloved Archbishop Clovis Thibault. Here’s a look back at the highlights of the Alumni Homecoming 2024.
Day 1: The Arrival of the Alumni
The festivities began on November 11, 2024, with the arrival of alumni from various dioceses and regions. The seminarians-turned-priests, gathered to rekindle old friendships and relive memories of their seminary days. The campus, which had been a place of spiritual formation and community for many, once again became a home for these men of faith, now spread across different parishes and ministries.
Day 2: Ordination of Six New Deacons and “Gabi ng Pasasalamat at Parangal”
The highlight of Day 2, November 12, was the ordination of six new deacons at 9:00 AM, an event that brought together many members of the seminary community, clergy, and lay faithful. The ordination was presided over by the Most Reverend Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, who was joined by eight concelebrating bishops from various dioceses across Mindanao. The ceremony, held at the seminary’s chapel, was a moment of deep spiritual significance, as the six deacons took their solemn vows of service to God and the Church.
In the afternoon, the alumni of REMASE gathered for their conference, sharing, and business meeting. This gathering served as a platform for former seminarians to reconnect, share experiences, and discuss initiatives that support the seminary’s mission and vision. The meeting also fostered a sense of unity and commitment among the alumni as they pledged their continued support for the seminary.
The day concluded with the much-anticipated “Gabi ng Pasasalamat at Parangal” (Night of Gratitude and Tribute), held at the SFX-ReMaSe gymnasium. The event served as a tribute to the Friends of REMASE, Religious Institutions, Seminary staff, and workers who have made remarkable contributions to the seminary. The night was filled with heartfelt speeches, musical performances, and awards presented to outstanding partners in the seminary who exemplified the values and mission of REMASE.
Day 3: Alumni Homecoming Festival and Socialization Night
On Day 3, November 13, the celebration continued with the Alumni Homecoming Festival. The campus grounds were transformed into a vibrant scene and exhibits showcasing the history of St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary. Alumni, seminarians, faculty, and friends gathered to participate in the festivities, engaging in games, sharing stories, and enjoying the rich cultural heritage of the seminary.
As the day transitioned into evening, the Socialization Night was held at the seminary’s gymnasium. This event provided a relaxed and joyful atmosphere where all alumni caught up with old friends, made new connections, and continued the celebrations. The night was filled with laughter and music, as everyone came together to celebrate the lasting bonds forged through shared experiences at SFX-ReMaSe.
Day 4: Unveiling of the Statue of Archbishop Clovis Thibault and Farewell
The final day of the alumni homecoming, November 14, began with a solemn and deeply spiritual occasion—the unveiling of the statue of Archbishop Clovis Thibault. The statue, which stands as a testament to the late archbishop’s contributions to the growth and development of the seminary, was unveiled after the morning Holy Eucharistic celebration. Archbishop Thibault had been an essential figure in the establishment of SFX-ReMaSe, and his legacy continues to inspire seminarians and alumni alike.
As the sun set on November 14, the alumni began their journey back to their homes, hearts full of gratitude and minds filled with memories of a weekend that reaffirmed their shared calling and the importance of their seminary formation. The Alumni Homecoming 2024 was an evidence to the enduring spirit of St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary – a place that continues to inspire men of faith and service to the Church.
For the alumni, the memories of these four days will linger long after they have returned to their everyday lives, a reminder of the importance of community, vocation, and the sacred mission entrusted to them. Until the next reunion, the bonds of brotherhood and faith will continue to unite them as they serve God’s people, guided by the values and lessons imparted during their time at St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary.
