A Future Rooted in Hope
As the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Archdiocese of Davao unfold, we are called to reflect on our rich history of faith while looking forward with hope to the years to come. These celebrations, which began in February 2024, have been marked by monthly activities spanning nine months, serving as a spiritual preparation and journey leading up to the culmination on November 30, 2024—the pinnacle of this Diamond Jubilee year.
This significant moment in our Archdiocese’s history aligns beautifully with Pope Francis’ declaration of 2025 as the Jubilee Year of Hope, inviting us to embrace a renewed sense of trust in God’s providence and a shared mission to build a brighter future.
Throughout the Jubilee, events such as the De Navigatione exhibits have beautifully narrated the story of the Archdiocese’s journey—from its humble beginnings in 1949 to becoming a vibrant faith community. These exhibits have highlighted not only the historical milestones of the Church but also the enduring contributions of countless clergy, religious, and laypeople who have worked tirelessly in the service of God’s mission.
As the Jubilee culminates on November 30, it serves as a time to give thanks for God’s steadfast guidance over the past 75 years. However, this milestone is not just a celebration of what has been but also a springboard toward what lies ahead.
Pope Francis reminds us that hope is “an anchor that sustains us through life’s storms.” This Jubilee Year of Hope calls us to carry the light of faith forward into the next 25 years as we journey toward the Archdiocese’s 100th anniversary in 2049.
With this vision in mind, the Archdiocese seeks to deepen its mission of evangelization, strengthen the spiritual foundation of families, and foster greater lay involvement in Church activities. Guided by the spirit of synodality and the Jubilee theme, we are called to journey together as one Church, inspired by the active participation of Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) these communities As vital expressions of the Church, remind us of the importance of shared faith, mutual support, and collective discernment in addressing the needs of an ever-changing world while remaining firmly rooted in the Gospel.
As we approach the conclusion of this Diamond Jubilee, let us take Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Hope as a reminder that God is always with us, guiding us toward a future filled with His grace. Together, as one Archdiocese, we are called to be bearers of this hope—building on the foundation laid by those who came before us, and courageously shaping the path for generations to come.
