CEAP Gathers Thousands of Catholic Educators for 2024 National Convention in Davao City

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), representing the nation’s largest network of over 1,500 Catholic schools, convened thousands of educators and leaders at the 2024 CAP National Convention.

Held under the theme, “pilgrims and Agents of Hope: Embracing Synodality, the event centered on collaborative approaches to address the unique challenges facing private Catholic education in the Philippines.

CEAP President Fr. Albert N. Delvo emphasized the vital role of Catholic education, stressing the organization’s commitment to serving communities amid adversity.

“This theme embodies both a journey of faith and a profound responsibility to society,” Fr. Delvo stated. “As pilgrims, we walk forward with hope and resilience, and as agents, we are called to drive social transformation with courage and compassion.”

During a press conference at the convention, CAP highlighted pressing issues, particularly the sharp decline in private school enrollment as families increasingly turn to free public education due to rising costs.

Fr. Delvo explained, “We are tackling these challenges by expanding financial aid, offering flexible tuition plans, and enhancing mental health support to nurture the well-being and growth of our students.”

Another key issue addressed was the migration of private school teachers to public schools. Fr. Delvo called for greater government support, emphasizing that “while CEAP is doing everything within its means to retain talented educators, sustained government backing is essential to make teaching in private schools viable.”

He further urged for stronger public-private partnerships, address climate-related disruptions and ensure resilient learning environments.

As the 2025 Midterm Elections draw near, CAP calls on policymakers to prioritize reforms that will strengthen and sustain private education.

“Our nation needs leaders who see education as the cornerstone of a more just and compassionate society.

Political will is paramount, and we must choose leaders who uphold these values.”

The 2024 CEAP National Convention aims to provide Catholic educators a critical platform to discuss, unit and advocate for the future of Catholic education across the Philippines.
