St. Michael Statue: New Addition to ALP
On September 29, 2024, during the feast of the Archangels—Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel—the Ascension of the Lord Parish witnessed the blessing of a remarkable new statue of St. Michael the Archangel. After the 9 a.m. mass, the statue was blessed by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Zenon Ampong. This sacred occasion marked the completion of a two-year-long labor of love and devotion, made possible through the collaboration of an anonymous benefactor and the sculptor, Brando Cedeño.
Brando Cedeño, a founding member of the Tabula Rasa Art Group Unlimited, is known for his mastery in both sculpture and painting. His artistic style, which balances realism and impressionism, draws inspiration from real people, places, animals, and nature. Cedeño’s works emphasize the movement, emotion, and character of his subjects, making each piece distinct and deeply evocative. His works, ranging from religious commissions for Catholic churches to large-scale theming contracts for theme parks and buildings across the region and Asia, are highly sought after by collectors locally and internationally.
For the anonymous benefactor, commissioning the statue was an act of untiring faith. In a private interview, she shared that despite enduring countless personal harassments during the statue’s creation, her commitment never wavered. She had long been a supporter of the Catholic Church, donating generously over the years, and felt a personal connection to St. Michael’s protective role. The project, though beset with challenges, was completed through her perseverance and faith in divine providence.
Cedeño’s artistry and the benefactor’s dedication are proof to God’s perfect timing. Though the statue took two years to complete, its unveiling came at a moment that felt divinely ordained, marking not only the feast day but also a powerful symbol of devotion. This new addition to the Ascension of the Lord Parish stands as a lasting tribute to St. Michael’s protection and a reflection of the deep devotion and artistry that brought it to life.
