Davao Observes Earth Hour
The Archdiocese of Davao came together in solidarity for the “Earth Hour” event held on September 28, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event, which was part of the larger Seasons of Creation initiative, aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote action to protect the planet.
Forty-two parishes, along with various Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs) and the City Government of Davao, participated in the hour-long activity. The Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish (OLMMP) parishioners were notably active in showing their support for the care of creation, highlighting their commitment to the protection of the environment.
This year’s Earth Hour focused on collective action in response to pressing environmental concerns, urging communities to take steps in conserving resources, reducing waste, and addressing climate change. The participants turned off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbolic act of unity and stewardship for the planet.
The event also strengthened the partnership between the local government and the Archdiocese in promoting environmental sustainability, reflecting the shared responsibility of all sectors to safeguard the Earth. (Marilou A. Luzon | OLMMP Soccom)
