6-in-1 Celebration in Tagum
“Katawhan sa Dios nagaampo sa tanang panahon.” (Ephesians 6:18)
The heart of the Diocese of Tagum celebrated the, 18th Cathedral Dedication Anniversary; 44th Founding Anniversary; 56th GKK Founding Anniversary; Ordination to Diaconate of Rev. Adrian F. Imperial, Rev. Aries R. Infiesto, Rev. Dave G. Bungabong, Rev. Joel C. Genosas, Rev. Richard S. Narciso, and Rev. Christian F. Soronio; Priesthood Silver Jubilee Anniversary of Rev. Fr. Joel Boco, Rev. Fr. Randy Murillo and Rev. Fr. Joedemar Gumban and Culmination of the Year of Prayer on October 11, 2024 at Christ the King Cathderal, Tagum City.
The whole day activity highlighted the following talks: Firstly, “Sharing of Prayer Experience in the Family,” by: Mr. & Mrs. Henry & Judith Dotillos who firmly professed, “By praying together, parents and children weave a bond of faith that can weather any trial.”
Secondly, the highlight of the event was “Katekesis sa Pag-ampo,” by Rev. Fr. Freddie Barte. He said, “Ang pag-ampo is a dialogue. Ang pag-ampo the same sa atong pagpalawom sa Synodal Church, listening, pagpaminaw. Dili lang sige’g pangayo.”
His talk pointed out that prayer is a vital dialogue that not only deepens our relationship with God but also fosters unity within families. It should be spiritual breath that enriches our lives, moving beyond mere requests to genuine communication. Many Catholics face challenges in maintaining authentic prayer, leading to diminished holiness and family breakdowns. True prayer connects us with God, allowing us to experience His profound love and transformation. When prayer becomes an integral part of our lives, it unites us as a family, guiding us to live authentically in faith and service.
Thirdly, “Ang Liturhiya” by: Rev. Fr. Ben Jerson Cañete
He emphasized the significance of liturgy in the life of the Church, describing it as the supreme work because it is the only eternal work of the Church. He explicitly states that understanding our faith, especially the liturgy or Mass, is essential to avoid being led astray by inadequate catechism. A clear understanding of the liturgy gives meaning to our actions, helping us understand who we are serving and why we are doing it.
Liturgy is the summit of all prayer and should not be taken for granted, unlike other devotions in the Church. As stated in the Sacrosanctum Consilium, the constitution on the sacred liturgy, one must engage in full, active, and conscious participation, especially in the Eucharist, which is the highest form of prayer and communion with God. Fr. Ben, reflects on Pope Francis teachings, describing prayer as essential for guiding us toward God, much like a compass, light, or breath. It is through prayer, especially in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, that we connect deeply with our faith and foster healthy relationships with God, community, and our families.
The 6-in-1 Diocesan Celebration in Tagum was more than just a series of events; it was a vibrant reminder of the power of faith, prayer, and community. In a world filled with distractions, the messages of unity, resilience, and spiritual dedication resonated deeply, encouraging families to embrace prayer as a vital aspect of their lives. As the day came to a close, the collective spirit of the participants echoed the truth that, indeed, the people of God pray at all times, fostering connections that can guide them through life’s challenges. This celebration was not only a milestone in the history of the Diocese of Tagum but also a reaffirmation of their commitment to living out their faith in every aspect of their lives.
