SFDA Parish: Thank you, Lolo and Lola!
Last Sunday, July 28, 2024, San Francisco de Asis Parish celebrated Grandparents Day, during the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The special day, observed across the Archdiocese of Davao and the wider Catholic community, highlighted the invaluable role of grandparents in the faith and family life.
During the Mass, Rev. Fr. Mario B. Holmina, OSJ, the parish priest, invited all grandparents present to come forward after the Communion prayer. As they gathered at the front of the altar, Fr. Holmina extended a heartfelt blessing upon them, acknowledging their wisdom, love, and contributions to the lives of their families and the parish community.
Each grandparent received a rose as a token of appreciation and love. The gesture was a simple yet profound symbol of the beauty and strength that grandparents bring into the lives of their loved ones. The parishioners joined the celebration, offering their prayers and gratitude for the grandparents who have played a significant role in nurturing the Catholic faith and family traditions.
The Grandparents Sunday celebration is an annual event in the Catholic Church, aimed at recognizing and celebrating the importance of the elderly in the community. It serves as a reminder of the deep respect and love owed to the older generation, who often serve as the bedrock of faith and wisdom within families.
The celebration at San Francisco de Asis Parish was a touching and joyful occasion, bringing together multiple generations in a shared expression of love and respect. As the parish continues its spiritual journey, the event underscored the essential role of grandparents in passing down the Catholic faith and values to younger generations.
