It is Kadayawan again
Time flies so fast. It was only in 1985 when the City first celebrated the 1st Kadayawan Festival. Today, it is now the 39th yearly-celebration of culture and indigenous heritage.
It was first named as Apo Duwaling Festival, to represent the three icons of Davao City: Mt. Apo, Durian, and Waling-waling orchid. It was renamed to Kadayawan in 1988 but bringing the same tradition and identity. The festival was formed to celebrate the bountiful harvest with the local residents and the indigenous communities.
In addition, the festivities today brings to mind the street markets, colorful parades, finger foods of durian delicacies, and Hiyas ng Kadayawan as a great way to introduce the unique tradition of our city to the first-time visitors, local or foreign.
This is to hope that any impression of negativity attributed to Davao City be replaced by this 39th Kadayawan Festival.
