God is crazy about us

(An excerpt of the homily of the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., during the National Anniversary Celebration of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals, SMX Lanang Priemier, Davao City, July 20, 2024.)

This is important for you which has the letter C in your acronym, BCBP, C, CHRISTIAN, extremely important. You ought to be embarrassed if you don’t invite the eucharist as part of your convention, very central.

“Do this in memory of me,” meaning for those who believe in him, the overriding consciousness, kung sa cellphone pa, pag-on, the first app is the memory of Jesus. “Do this in memory of me.” The memory which would be the only operating force, motivation, idea in one’s life as you apply the word Christian to your group. The memory, to be conscious about the fact, that God is crazy about us. The Eucharist is a celebration that God is crazy about us. his love is bordering on craziness. In fact St. Paul says, “fools for Christ.” We are responding to God’s tremendous love for us.

St. Paul says even before we became worth it to be loved, God already made initial steps to have himself be known to us. Even Judas, was there in the first Eucharist, he did not say, “excuse me, Judas can you get out?” He did not. Jesus who could read minds, who could read people, he knew that even Peter, who was trying to show that he was strong, but Jesus looking at him, Peter is not that strong; he allowed Peter to be there at the first Eucharist. The offer of grace and love from the Lord and by the Lord is there always for everyone. That is the memory that “we should do this in memory of [him] me.” So for us who believe, the mass is very important.
