Fools For Christ
On the feast of St. Alexius, July 17, a significant event marked the journey of two dedicated members of the Alexian Brothers. Brother Dionisio G. De La Banda, Jr., CFA, and Brother Henry Anthony Pabualan, CFA, who made their perpetual profession of religious vows. The ceremony, presided over by the Bishop of Digos, Most Rev. Guillermo Afable, D.D., took place at San Pablo Parish in Juna Subdivision at 4:00 PM.
Brother Henry Anthony Pabualan, who had been in formation for seven years, shared his favorite Bible verse, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). He expressed his gratitude to God for all the blessings and to his family for their unwavering support and inspiration. Reflecting on perseverance, Brother Henry stated that true perseverance is rooted in the love of God. His message to young professionals was simple yet profound: “Be blessed and be a blessing to everyone.”
Brother Dionisio G. De La Banda, Jr., who had spent eight years in formation, found inspiration in the verse, “With God all things are possible!” He expressed his deepest thanks to God for His wonderful works and unconditional love, to his family for their great love and care, and to the Alexian Brothers for their unwavering support throughout his religious life. When asked about perseverance, Brother Dionisio highlighted the importance of seeking the guidance of the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—in discerning one’s true vocation. He also encouraged asking for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, angels, and saints.
In his homily, Most Rev. Guillermo Afable, D.D., Bishop of Digos, said, “First love never dies…true love hurts.” A reminder that it is the Lord who loves us first and that Catholicism is the only religion where the Lord looks for His people and not the other way around. Bishop Afable emphasized that when we love, we expect suffering. “The more he loves, the more he suffers, but in that suffering is God present in us,” Bishop Afable said.
The ceremony was a beautiful testament to their commitment and dedication. The presence of the community, family, and friends made the occasion even more memorable. Both Brothers embodied the spirit of St. Alexius through their vows, marking a lifelong commitment to serving God and others. We celebrate the love of Brother Henry and Brother Dionisio, a love that came from God and is ready to be fully given. Only fools for Christ would be willing to love without expecting anything in return.
This momentous event not only celebrated their personal milestones but also inspired the congregation to reflect on the values of faith, perseverance, and service. Brother Dionisio and Brother Henry’s perpetual profession served as a powerful reminder of the importance of dedication and trust in God’s plan, encouraging others to follow their calling with unwavering faith and commitment.
To God be all the glory.
