Zone 6 Zonal Assembly 2024

On May 28, 2024, at 7:00 PM, GKK Servant Leaders (GSL) and members of the five (5) GKKs of Zone 6 gathered to celebrate the “Zonal Assembly” at the GKK Mahayag chapel. This is in celebration of the Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Davao.

Highlights of the said zonal assembly include the sharing of the Pangulo sa Katilingban (PSK) on how their GKK was created and our farewell thanksgiving to seminarian Ryan who will be leaving our zone in place of having a mission abroad.

GKK Mahayag with patron saint Inahan sa Kanunay’ng Panabang was created in 1976, GKK San Vicente in December 1981, GKK San Antonio Buhangin in 1984, GKK Fatima created on October 13, 1987, and finally GKK Sta. Cruz-NHA in 1993.

The 1st sharer was popularly called “Inday Talines” Twenty (20) years as PSK of GKK San Vicente. She shared that they should have been evicted from their residence, but she vowed to stay and so did her neighbors. They had a little chapel built in front of her house. With the entry of NHA and other donors who shared their treasures, the chapel was relocated to a donated lot, survived, and even now has a gym.

The 2nd sharer Bernarda Jumamil already in her 80s has served as PSK in their chapel for 40 years. She shared that it was she who suggested that they name their patron saint “Inahan sa Kanunay’ng Panabang” because most of the patron saints of their co-zonal members were male. Due to the increasing population in their area, they felt that it was time to build their own chapel as they used to attend Kasaulogan sa Pulong (KSP) in other GKKs. They desired to have their chapel, so they cooperated and built one.

The 3rd sharer was Jean Sigasig from GKK Fatima. She was a SoCCom before she became PSK just recently. Their long-time PSK Neneng Bonsubre had already died. Their GKK was created when they desired to have their fiesta celebration separately, they used to attend at other GKKs too. They were created together with GKK Sta. Teresita and GKK Fatima. The members’ contribution and cooperation helped in the maintenance and development of their chapel.

The 4th sharer is Lorna Diego from GKK Sta. Cruz-NHA, a PSK for nine (9) years. She started as Assistant Secretary of the GKK. She shared that the activities started in each corner of the vicinity of NHA. KSP is also done at the multi-purpose building. The problem was it was also used by another sect. She facilitated the solicitation letters to various lawmakers, companies, and individuals for support, and most often the reply would be “Please come back” some successful, some not, nevertheless, the chapel was created, officers elected and activities even in the parish participated.

The 5th sharer was Mr. Joel Abellana. He shared that he was an active civic youth leader not a PSK of the San Antonio de Padua-Buhangin chapel. There were no active officers, so the GKK was left unattended, and no fiesta mass was done. He was once asked to join a meeting at the parish, and it was there that he was requested to represent the GKK. Since then, with the help of neighboring GKKs and the support of parish workers, it blossomed and is now actively participating in the parish activities. They were able to hold their elections consistently, and for the last years, they also have an active rondalla group composed of their youth. Cooperation from members enabled them to have a better-looking chapel presently.

Indeed, the sharing of various leaders from the five (5) GKKs showed us that desire, commitment, cooperation, perseverance & faith in God and combined actions paved the way for the development and progress of a community.

After sharing, we listened to the Thanksgiving speech of Seminarian Ryan, gave him some gifts and written prayers for him to deliver at the church in Baclaran.

Thank you for the presence of our parish workers Sharon and Babino and our GKK Coordinator Leah who also shared an inspiring message to the group. (Marieta V. Comighud | GKK SoCCom)
