I will not refuse you
Then she said, “I have one small request to make of you; do not refuse me.” And the king said to her, “Make your request, my mother, for I will not refuse you.” – 1 Kings 2:20
If King Solomon, in his earthly kingship, pledged not to refuse his mother’s request, how much more assured are we of the boundless blessings that our Lord Jesus Christ would grant us through His beloved mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary? With unwavering faith, we can confidently approach Mary, knowing that our Savior’s love knows no bounds, and His grace flows abundantly through her intercession.
This was the confidence that was palpably evident throughout the activities during the opening of the first day of the 5th Archdiocesan Marian Exhibit on May 5, 2024 at the NCCC VP Atrium. As the faithful gathered in reverence and devotion during the opening Mass presided over by the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, peoples’ hearts were lifted in prayer, seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother and Queen. Like the spirit of King Solomon’s pledge to his mother, the participants entrusted their intentions to Mary, knowing with certainty that her maternal care and advocacy would bring their petitions before the throne of her Son.
This 6th Sunday in the season of Easter has brought us joy not only because we have opened the Marian Exhibit but we are joyful in knowing that the Lord Jesus will always be with us from birth until death. He has conquered death and will be there when we too face it. He has declared his friendship with us and no longer look at us as slaves and he is confident that in him, we will bear much fruit.
This joy radiated throughout the atrium as Bro. Noe Dora, President of the Association of Pastors converted to the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines shared his life of faith. Boisterous laughter echoed in the mall as the audience reacted to his funny memories and realizations.
In the end, he inspired the viewing audience of almost a hundred and tens of thousands in Facebook live, as he posed a challenge to be committed Catholics, not only devoted but committed.
And as we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Davao, the continuation of the Marian Exhibit into its fifth year is a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of the faithful. This cherished tradition has not only enriched the spiritual life of the community but has also served as a beacon of hope and unity, bringing together believers from all walks of life. As we reflect on the milestones of the past and look forward to the journey ahead, may the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary in this exhibit serve as a guiding light, leading us closer to her Son and inspiring us to live out our faith with joy and conviction.
