A Pilgrimage with Mary

Christianity spiritually encompasses people from all over the world, guiding them on a sacred odyssey with Mary, the revered Mother of Jesus. This journey seeks divine conversion and welcomes every individual to the Church and the Kingdom through Mary.

Mary’s life, though hard, was a humble and sacred one. She accepted the challenge of becoming the mother of Christ, our Savior, with humility. Mary faced many tribulations while raising Christ, from seeing him grow to witnessing his passion and death on the cross, and his resurrection. Her life undoubtedly impacted the Church because of her suffering and humility throughout.

Mary, despite her exalted title, remained humble throughout her life. Witnessing Jesus’ earthly days and his journey to the cross, she stayed humble and obedient to God’s will. Christians aspire to be as humble and accepting as Mary, prompting them to follow her example of humility throughout their lives.

Mary is also addressed as the “Mother of Sorrows” or “Our Lady of Sorrows” for her solidarity with the poor and outcasts. She encourages followers to be kind and humble, especially to the marginalized in our society. In the current generation, Mary teaches us to be humble and generous towards others who cannot afford food while we complain about things we don’t even need. She teaches us to always give to others with a big heart.

A journey with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, encompasses each of us, urging us to be humble throughout our lives. My own journey started during her month, Flores de Mayo. It was one of the most memorable times in my life because it marked the beginning of my sacred journey with the Mother of Christ. From there, I participated in more church events and made new friends along the way. It encouraged me to study Mary’s life and her sufferings. I have been amazed by her life and impressed by how she remained humble to God despite her experiences. I, myself, aspire to be humble like Mary, for she brought me into this amazing and spiritual life.

Moreover, Mary’s unwavering “yes” to God’s will in becoming Jesus’ mother has inspired many to be as submissive and obedient as she was. Throughout her life, Mary was just a simple woman. She remained humble and loyal to her husband, Joseph. When an angel came down to her and told her about God’s will, she simply said, “Let it be done to me according to your word,” as we hear in the prayer, the Angelus, at noon. Christians strive to be as obedient as Mary to God.

Thus, Mary’s impact on the Church is undeniable. As the Mother of Christ and the Mother of the Church, followers of Mary strive to be close to her. Her unwavering faith and complete obedience to God is something to aspire to. She carried out God’s will without hesitation and trusted God more than anything. Because of this, many Christians aspire to be like Mary, the humble and obedient Mother of Christ.

In conclusion, Mary, the Mother of our Savior, is an incredible influence in the Church. She empowers people’s faith and leads them to a spiritual life. Many people, like myself, aspire to be like her.

As Mary leads us to a spiritual life, she also leads us closer to Christ and God the Father. (Yveth P. Lofranco – Winner of the 5th Archdiocesan Marian Exhibit Essay Writing Contest)
