The World Health Organization said that 2023 was this century’s hottest year. Now they’re saying something is wrong with their algorithm guesstimates because the January to March 2024 temperatures are hotter than those from January to March 2023. People, animals and plants are badly affected by extreme heat except the cactus. English words/phrases lethargic, listless, worn out, lousy, dead tired for us is kapoy, luya. We sweat because of the heat from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, since June 2023 up to this time, we have been sweating more because of the unusual global warming.

A person’s body is more than 50% liquid. To be dehydrated means our body liquid is less than normal because the unusual heat makes us sweat more. This is bad for our health. Whereas before, we drink 2 glasses of water after breakfast, 2 glasses after lunch, 2 glasses after dinner plus 2 or 3 glasses of water in between or about 10 to 12 glasses of water every day. Now, it should be 3 glasses after breakfast, lunch and dinner plus 4 to 5 glasses in between. This water will make our body cool because it replaces the water you lost through sweating.

The only safe hours (meaning you sweat less because it’s cool) are 5:00-7:00 p.m., whether it’s walking, jogging, exercising, watering/cleaning your garden. Wear a cotton sando and short pants; long sleeve shirts, long pants make you sweat more. If overweight, you really sweat more, your heart could be affected by exercising in this heat. Eat regularly and have healthy snacks, meaning control your soft drinks, junk food, cakes, ice cream, fatty salty foods, no smoking, no alcohol, sleep well. This is the hardest part of our daily routine. At 10:00 p.m. we are in bed but our cellphone is still open expecting calls from everyone and because of our curiosity to know what’s up. In bed at 10:00 p.m. but still awake at 12:00 midnight because of the cellphone which is never switched off.

You are a slave, addict, victim of the electronic cellphone epidemic. You will be tired, luya if you have very little night’s sleep. It’s easy to control your addictions at 10:00 p.m., switch off the TV, computer, tablet, cellphone. Don’t take sleeping pills, valium, beer, wine because your poor, overworked, over wrought, miserable body will have to absorb and process all the alcohol, artificial, man-made chemicals the whole night.

How can you sleep? Think of a car’s engine still switched on when parked. Pray the rosary each night. This will reduce stress, tension, worries, fear, knowing that you are calling on God to be with you when you sleep. Switching off your cellphone at night means you switch on to the Lord.
