Embracing Unity: Archbishop Valles’ Inspiring Visit
On April 8, 2024, the San Pedro Cathedral Parish witnessed a momentous occasion as the clock struck 4:00 PM and the esteemed Archbishop Romulo G. Valles D.D., the Archbishop of Davao, graced us with his presence. The air buzzed with excitement and anticipation as we eagerly awaited his arrival. Each of us held our own thoughts and emotions, occupying different positions, yet united by a singular desire to ensure that this visit would be unforgettable.
On the first day of his Pastoral Visit, Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D. was given a warm and enthusiastic welcome by the leaders and parishioners of San Pedro Cathedral. The President of the Finance Committee, Sorlinda Lozada, presented a beautiful Ethnic lei to the Bishop, while Rev. Fr. Voltaire P. Dimol, the Parish Administrator, along with other priests, GSLs, and children waved flaglets during the event.
The youth group INDAYOG Animation, dressed in vibrant traditional costumes, delivered an outstanding performance of dance and music, showcasing their talent and passion for their culture. The Festival dance “Mangingisda sa Katawhan” of Sr. San Pedro’s Gozos was also performed by the talented youth choir, who sang and danced with great energy and enthusiasm, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The ceremony concluded with a Holy Mass, where Archbishop Valles, delivered a powerful message of faith, hope, and love, inspiring the congregation to live their lives with purpose and meaning. The entire event was a remarkable testament to the unity, faith, and spirit of the San Pedro Cathedral community.
During a one-day event, the Archbishop met the GKK Leaders and the Worship and Formation Ministry. The purpose of the pakighinabi was to understand the current situation and tasks of each ministry. All participants had the opportunity to share their experiences in serving the church, particularly in their respective communities. The Archbishop encouraged the Pangulo sa Liturhiya (PSL) to strengthen their spiritual faith, as they carry the word of the Lord during the Kasaulugan sa Pulong (KSP) every Saturday. The interview with the Archbishop ended with a meaningful message to all lay leaders.
On April 9, 2024, the Archbishop made his second day of visit by going to the Jesus Nazareno Chapel, where he was warmly welcomed by Punong Barangay Robert Olan-olan of Barangay 76-A, with his Kagawad. The Bishop presided a Holy Mass, which was attended by different communities consisting of 6 Zones of 30 chapels.
Following the mass, the Bishop met the GSLs of the community, led by PSK Edwin Mayormita. The GSLs presented the best practices and situations of their community, which provided valuable insights.
The Bishop also conducted an emotional pakighinabi with the family who had lost their daughter due to depression. The interview was conducted with sensitivity and compassion, and the Bishop provided comforting words to the grieving family.
Moreover, young people and representatives from the women’s sector were given a platform to express their opinions and concerns.
The community gathering ended with a heartwarming message that left everyone feeling hopeful and joyful. The event was profound as people truly felt connected and united in their common purpose to be closer to God. Attendees experienced attentive listening, which allowed them to better understand each other and appreciate the diverse perspectives present within the community. Overall, it was an unforgettable occasion that brought the community closer together in one faith and a lasting love to God. The visit of the Archbishop of Davao, Romulo G Valles D.D., had a positive impression on everyone who attended.
On the third day of the Bishop’s visit, which took place on April 10th, 2024, he held a productive meeting with the Parish staff. The meeting was led by Parish Administrator Fr. Voltaire and included notable attendees such as Msgr. Julius Rodulfa, Fr. Michael Ondras, Jr., Fr. Kim Samones, and others. The Bishop engaged with the staff in a meaningful discussion, sharing insights and discussing important issues related to the Parish.
After the meeting, the Bishop and his team joined the staff for a fellowship dinner, the Bishop expressed his sincere gratitude to the Parish Administrator, Parish Pastoral Council, and Parish Finance Committee for their hospitality and hard work.
