March is Women’s Month!
MARCH—A month that celebrates women’s empowerment, honors their existence and appreciates the beauty of every woman in the world.
The National Women’s Month Celebration has a long history dating back to 1978, when U.S. government officials decided to celebrate “Women’s History Week” to correspond with International Women’s Day which is celebrated every 8th of March. From then on, the initiative has been celebrated on a global scale with the utmost respect and admiration for women.
Here in the Philippines, there are a lot of programs and activities that highlight and celebrate the contributions of women, just like how we celebrate and commemorate the many titles of our Mother Mary, who is an important figure in the life of Jesus and in our Catholic faith. She faithfully answered the call of God to be the mother of our Savior, loved His son dearly, and stood by His side during his ministry and preaching.
Realistically speaking, none of us would be here if women were not here, who bear the child in their womb for nine months and shower the most beautiful feeling there is in the world, love. Women have also amplified their voices to be heard that continues to promote certain causes for the better and not be limited to domestic roles in society. Women have cemented themselves as important leaders and vastly contributed to nation-building by taking different professional career paths that have honed their skills and talents. Women have become more flexible, adaptive to change, and have found their way to take up space in the world.
One may ask, how do we celebrate Women’s Month? Honestly, there is no absolute answer to this, but it is a matter of how we show our appreciation to every woman in our lives be it our family members or friends. It could be through giving gifts, taking them on a date, posting their pictures on your social media accounts, or simply saying “thank you” or “I appreciate you.” Our own ways of showing appreciation would create an impact to every woman, allowing them to feel admired, valued, and heard.
Women’s Month is a reminder to all of us that women matter in all aspects of the world. This month is about recognizing the milestones of women and their roles in a transformative society. With the 2024 theme, “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”, let us become more open to changes and be advocates of a more inclusive society for a more progressive world just like how women have become advocates for their rights and causes. This month is about celebration, appreciation, and love for every woman! (Jason Roi O. Bayla | HCDC Intern)
