Week of Prayer for Christian Unity to be Celebrated in Davao City
How beautiful it is to behold to see Christians from various protestant and Catholic communities gather together in prayer and fellowship!
On January 15, 2024, a meeting was held in the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) meeting room, corner Bonifacio and Pelayo Sts., Davao City with representatives from various Protestant and Roman Catholic Christian communities in Davao City to prepare for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity eight-night celebrations from January 18 to 25, 2024.
The following were in attendance: Rev. Wenzyl Dejolde, Rev. Melvin Ramoso and Rev. Haniel Taganas, all from the U.C.C.P., Rev. Lutero Mantiquilla Jr., from the Philippine Independent Church and Rev. Rueland Badoy, representing the Philippine Bible Society. From the Roman Catholics: Fr. Ritsche Gamaya, Director of Biblical Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Davao together with his staff Bro. Concordio Pondias and Bro.Domingo Alob. Fr. Pedro Lamata, Director of Archdiocesan Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue (ACEID) with Bro. Antonio Apat, ACEID Staff and the Biblical Apostolate Workers of St. Francis of Assisi-La Verna, Madelyn Tito and Emily Avila.
The eight-night prayer and fellowship will be held in the following venues: January 18, St. Francis of Assisi, La Verna Hills, Barangay Cabantian, Davao City, January 19, Philippine Independent Church, F. Torres St., Davao City, January 20, United Church of the Philippines-Crossroads Church, Cor. Bonifacio and Pelayo Sts., Davao City, January 21, Lutheran Church, Matina Aplaya, Davao City, January 22, St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Sasa, Davao City, January 23, San Pedro Cathedral, San Pedro St., Davao City, January 24, Sts. Philip & James Episcopal Church, Matina, Davao City, January 25, Sta. Ana Shrine Parish, Sta. Ana St. Davao City. All these ecumenical gatherings will start at 6:30 in the evening.
May the prayer of Jesus “that they may all be one” (John 17,21), may be given more impetus and meaning toward its full realization. (St. Francis of Assisi Parish SoCCom)
