A Birth Worth Celebrating
Last December 2, 2023, on the night before the 1st Sunday of Advent we experienced a 6.1 magnitude earthquake here in Davao City. Aftershocks were also felt days after the said calamity. Though Davao City is not the epicenter, many of us are living in fear because of said happenings. Classes and work have been suspended to check if there were damages in school buildings, offices and even in other government and private infrastructures.
Many said that because of what happened, the Lord seems to have pat us so that we be reminded to focus on the importance of this Advent Season; which is to be thankful on the birth and to be ready on the second coming of Jesus.
Amidst fear of earthquakes and wars let us anticipate Christmas with a grateful heart. This is also a season of giving amidst grieving for the victims as we pray for them. Despite the chaos of the world, the birth of Jesus is still worth celebrating. His humble beginnings in the manger through the Virgin Mary and his earthly father Joseph is a symbol of love from God the Father who gave up his son for us all.
On another note, may we also anticipate the Lord’s second coming with hope in our hearts that He may welcome us to be a part of his kingdom. May we be alert and prepared at all times by obeying his commands and doing His will in our lives.
Lastly, may we all have a blessed and joyful celebration this Christmas.
Below is a short prayer of thanksgiving for Christmas.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for Mama Mary’s humble acceptance to your plan to become the mother of your son Jesus. Thank you also for Saint Joseph’s obedience to your will.
Lord, we thank you for the birth of Jesus, may we celebrate Christmas with a grateful heart. May we be reminded of your great love for us as you send your Son to save us from our sinfulness.
Father God as we celebrate Christmas with our loved ones, may it be meaningful and may Jesus be the center of our celebration.
This we pray in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
